XMLPortletFactory Release 3.0 for Liferay 6.2.x Announcement

Hello community,

Finally we got XMLPortletFactory working on 6.2.0 GA1. Once again Juan Gonzalez del Pino, hast used many of his last weekends to have ready this new release that comes with very nice improvements that you will love. Please visit Github for the latest Source Code or Sourceforge for the clasic download.

There has been some bug fixes like:

On the search form did not execute any action
Document library field types did not work when selecting existing documents in Liferay

And also there has been many improvements like:

Code cleaning and refactoring.
New Github repository (See https://github.com/xmlportletfactory)
Now every generated portlet is "Responsive". Nice uh?
Changes on the javascript code to use Alloy UI where posible.
Elimination of <Image> field type. Since 6.1 of lifeay all is Document Library. If using 6.1, still exists
Separation of XSD for each SDK version. Now better restrictions are applied to XML file definitions.
And the last but probably the BEST, Recycle bin Support. Just add <trash>true</trash> and the magic will happen.

Feel free to make pull request on the GitHub repository, we trully think that will bring new contributors to the project, having a faster evolution and bug fixing.

Hi,
why compiling the AssetIntegration.xml file I get a SAXParseException saying element asset is not allowed?
I also checked the XSD definition and indeed the element is not in the definition.
The sample xml file says "This is a XMLPortletFactory (v.-2.5) XML definition file for Assets Integration testing purposesTested on Liferay 6.1.x",
but the latest downloadable version of xmlpf is 2.2.

Can you please give me a feedback?

Release 2.2 announcement

Hello community,

It has been almost five months without a new release, but this only means that this new release has more bug fixes, features, innovations and collaborators than any one before. I am thrilled to present you XMLPortletFactory 2.2, you are going to love it, just read the improvements related below:

First, let me recall you of Moisés Belda and Jose Parra Martín both working at Activa, already known to all because of previous collaborations, have contributed in many new things like a brand new Export-to-Excel Feature that is going to be one of your prefered features. Trying to resume, I will mention, things like "Cascade Delete", where you get to delete detail records when deleting the master, and many bug fixes related to pagination, record filter and row selection.

Introducing a new collaborator Deb Troxel, from TigerCub Technology  probably you also know from Liferay forums, has participated in many bug fixes, specially on areas of languages and upgrading record dates, etc.

Also welcome Henri Leisma, currently at Ambientia has send us the Finnish translation. (kiitos paljon, Henri ) Great for many new users from Findland, tervetuloa kaikki (welcome all).

Sure you remember Davide Rossi for the many contributions on the past version. Well, he was just getting ready for cruise speed, he has already prepared XMLPortletFactory for Liferay 6.2.x , upgraded velocity templates, added SDK 6.2.x reconigtion, upgraded dtd's definitions, fixed bugs on areas like css file names, language keys, etc. Modified definitions so you now have portlet titles without extension (-portlet), also in the add menu, and many others I dont remember right now, sorry Davide, you go too fast.

Don't go away, Davide, also had time to contribute not one, but two great new features that you can enjoy from now on. The first is the implementation of Liferay activities with XMLPortletFactory portlets through the new tag <generateActivity/> See here in detail. And the second, but not less cool is Calculated Fields, a very usefull feature, you can read more here. Awesome Davide!!!

Of course, for all of you that are wondering of what Juan Gonzalez del Pino is doing to surprise us this time, let me tell you that you are going to be very satisfied. For starting, Juan added possibility of auto-installing portlets on control panel just by adding tag:

<showInControlPanel>true</showInControlPanel>

In <classDef> section. Easy, usefull and direct, just what doctor asked for. In between he upgraded 6.1.x velocity jsp templates to use AUI instead of forms and tables, great for usability, speed, SEO, browser compatibility, etc, etc.

Liferay Madrid Symposium 2012

Again this year XMLPortletFactory is going to Liferay's Symposium, this is another great opportunity for learning, sharing and networking. The agenda is packed with great sessions and speakers, some very prominent like Jorge Ferrer, Rodolfo Carpintier and Jesús M. Gonzalez-Barahona. Dont miss it!!

I will be participating Thursday, 25, on Track A (Developers) with Juan G. "Quick develpment in Liferay using XMLPortletFactory", will post here al material a week after.

Welcome 2.1 release

Hello community,

I am proud to present what I think is the best version of XMLPortletFactory, it comes with many small fixes and improvements that makes it more reliable and stable than ever. Participating on the development of these programs, has left me with a permanent smile.

One of the things I like more of this release, is the amount of Liferay developers that have participated on it, let me introduce them.

- Moisés Belda, among other things fixed double submission topic, IP error message for regexp, he is currently working on MS Excel data import and export, good job Moisés.
- Jose Parra fixed duplicated row insertions when errors occurred, also made great collaboration on testing the project, etc.
- Davide Rossi, has made a great collaboration on I18n, now is all UTF-8, so life is much easier when translating to other languages.
- Eric Le Bail, also contributed with improvements on XML definition for project package attribute that I am now implementing.

But, if releases had a name, this release would be "Juan Gonzalez del Pino", because he made an enormous programming work, implementing Liferay permissions, that was such an important feature missing in the project, and now is there for your use and enjoyment. He is also responsible for indexes in filters, improvements on pagination, OpenSearch Implementation, and many, many, other improvements. We are still welcoming his workflow contribution, and he is allready with all this new features.

SVN service improvements

As you have noticed lately, there is an increasing number of friends, participating on the project. Not only sending their code improvements to the forums, but also commiting their work to SVN at sourceforge.net as Juan G., Moises B. and Iren L. are doing.

With the intention of approaching SVN standards, we have changed root node name from XMLPortletFactory to "trunk". Hope this will not interfere with your current configuration too much, and thank to everyone for participating.

History comes from more than a year ago, when I was showing my colleague Miguel Pau XMLPortletFactory project, he expressed that now you can make CRUD portlets like "churros", that is, because you can make them so easy and fast.

In the 2011 Liferay Symposium presentation and Jdare 2011, I included a slide, with an image of a machine for making churros (churrera), and we all have fun, even some tweets talk about it.

Yesterday Juan Fernandez from Liferay Spain was at #cmsexpo in Chicago, and found this small bussines. He send the picture.

I am still laughing, Thanks for sharing!!!

Version 2.0 Released

Hello Community,

Version 2.0 of XMLPortletFactory has been released.

Finally there has been a version number change, the reasons? Many, the last big improvements, Liferay 6.1.x compatibility, chain validations, etc. but mainly because of workflow feature has forced to insert new fields on the generated tables, making it difficult for backward compatibility. If you don't use workflow, you don't have this issue.

There has also been a great improvement on the generated code, being much more understandable for developers. On the same line, workflow has been enabled on 6.0.x code generations, good news for many .

Liferay Workflows, now enabled on XMLPortletFactory

Hello community,

It is a great privilege to present the community a new XMLPF feature of this importance and significance. From today you can use Liferay Workflows with XMLPortletFactory table rows, just like you do with message posts, wiki pages, blog entries, or any other resource.

Incredible? Impossible? Not if you learn that Juan Gonzalez del Pino is the contributor behind this great new feature. You all know Juan from Liferay’s forums, from the Bugsquad, from the Liferay Spain User Group (LSUG), from 2012 Community Contributor Awards, and ..........many many others. We teamed a couple of weeks ago to work on this section, and I have to say it has been a pleasure, Juan makes complex things look easy. At the moment only workflow for 6.1.x is available, if you need for 6.0.x send me a line.

The 1000+ downloads milestone has been reached. Who would have thought less than a year ago that this, was going to be so successfull. Today is a great occasion to acknowledge the support and help from many people. With out their colaboration this project would not be possible. Thanks to everyone, I remember you all.

Is a very satisfactory feeling to see the continuous and accelerating growth of the community and visits to the site. Fascinating to see that people in more than 100 countries, hundreds of cities, dozens of diferent languages are using the software.

Special thanks to my wife Rosa, for her strength and enthusiasm, she is the fuel that keeps me going.

Did you Know? Detail files on Detail files supported

Yes, this is another one that can be of your interest,

You can define Master - Detail relationship files recursively. Complicated?, let me give an example:

Lets imagine a teacher that has to track its students tasks. He gives his students so many tasks that he must group the tasks by student. At the same time he teachs to so many students, that he has to group them by classroom, this way he can search and locate any task of any student of any classroom much more easily.

So, we have a classroom file, where each record points to zero or many students of a students file, where at the same time, each record points to zero or many tasks of a tasks file. Just below an example made, where we allready inserted classrooms, students, and tasks.

Here we have the Classroom portlet with "Classroom 1A" selected,

As we have "Classroom 1A" selected, only students from that classroom are listed on the students portlet, were now we selected "Student 001 of 1A",

This way finally we access on the Tasks portlet, only to the tasks of previous selected student. Nice eh?

Here you have the XMLPorletFactory definition for the example above, just download and generate Liferay Crud portlet (MultiDetailFiles.xml)

Remember <detail> fields are available in 6.1.x and 6.0.x generations.

Did you Know? Multiple Chain Validations Supported

Yes, you guessed right, no need to ask any more,

You can get populated a combo box, depending on the value of other combo box, that is also populated at run-time by the value of other. Already lost? here is an example:

A usual requirement is to have a province combo populated depending on the country selected, until now easy, but you can go further and populate the cities combo box depending on the province selected before. Nice?

Here you have an image of the edit / add jsp of a real example:

Only cities of Alicante province are shown in the cities combo box. Only provinces of Spain are shown in the provinces combo box.

This way we can build better and easier CRUD portlets.

Here you have an XML definition file with a multi-chain validations. Just download and generate portlet. (MultiChainValidations.xml)

Remember, this option is only available for 6.1.x generations.

Documents and Media Library Fully implemented

Hello Community,

With XMLPortletFactory-6.x-v1.14 allready uploaded on SourceForge, we finally have a full working <image> field like with versions working on 6.0.x of Liferay.

No more "draft" status on documents uploaded. Now we also have a preview of upload image when editing a row.

You can go to control panel --> Document and Media --> XMLPortletFactoryUploads --> whatever. And get full access to uploaded images. Isn't it great?

Remember <image> fields are available in 6.1.x and 6.0.x generations.

New Features, now chain validations supported

Hello again community,

Many of you were asking for a way to automatically populate one combo box depending on other. Well, magic here again, just uploaded a new version on sourceforge.net that suports this new feature, just include <depends> tag, with the local application field name that is going to be selected in the fist combo, and the field name of the validation table that is going to be filtered to populate the second combo. Now XMLPortletFactory will do the work for you.
